Zack Zdrale (b. 1977) is from Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned a BA of Science-Art degree in 1999. Upon graduation, he continued to study life drawing with Robert L. Schultz. His training culminated in a Master's degree in figurative painting from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He graduated with honors and now teaches in the graduate Fine Art department. Zdrale has participated in a number of group shows, and has staged a successful solo exhibition with the John Pence Gallery.

Zdrale focuses primarily on the human figure, conveying a wide variety of attitudes and emotions through the pose of the body and facial expression. His palette is subdued and moody, and his figures are painted in accurate tones against dark, dramatic backgrounds. Zdrale is a master of light and shadow, and he utilizes its interplay on the figure to great effect. His intimate understanding of human anatomy is on display in his drawings as in his paintings. Aside from his many nudes, Zdrale is equally equipped to handle the textures and accessories of the clothed figure.

As a versatile artist, Zdrale has also proven his skill in the still life genre. In one example, a human skull has been painted with great detail and intensity alongside a red ribbon and two eggs. Zdrale is a force to be reckoned with in American Realism today. We recommend his work to you without reservation.

Prices for his work ranges in price from $500 to $12,500.
