Anthony Waichulis - (b. 1972) hails from rural Pennsylvania and has established a national reputation for his trompe l'oeil paintings. The brilliant dimensionality he achieves is as effective and as brilliant as the two most well know American tropme l'oeil artists John Peto and William Harnett. But Waichulis goes well beyond in terms of the finiteness of his imagery. His paintings are compelling, conveying a sharp and wry sense of humor. U.S. currency, baseball cards, game pieces and memorabilia, as well as his own ingenious photos make up the subject matter and the results are unbelievable. Waichulis came to our attention through the auspices of gallery stalwart Will Wilson, a one-time instructor at the Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore, MD of which they are both alumni. In addition to John Pence Gallery, Waichulis has exhibited at The Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, OH; the Arnot Art Museum, Elmira, NY; The Washington Museum of Fine Arts, Hagerstown, MD; Midwest Museum of American Art, Elkhart, IN; and the Johns Hopkins University, Evergreen House, Baltimore, MD. Waichulis's works are highly prized by knowledgeable collectors from across the country and have been lauded by critics on many occasions. Interested collectors are urged to contact us about their intent to collect his work inasmuch as there are a limited number of new works made available each year and collector interest runs high. Prices range from $3,500 to $30,000 depending upon size and complexity. |
