Daniel Greene, N. A. - (b. 1934) is an American painter of note whose
designation as a member of the august National Academy of Design signals
his eminent position in the American art scene. He is, in addition to
being a painter, an illustrious teacher and academician with long stints
of teaching at the Art Students League and the National Academy of
Design from the 1960's through the 1980's. He taught privately
through the mid 1990's, having instructed such well known gallery
artists as Steven Assael, Jacob Collins, and Will Wilson.
Greene's paintings are included in major collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cincinnati Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Collection of Fine Arts, Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University, Duke University, the New York Stock Exchange, City Hall - New York City, and numerous corporate collections of distinction and note. He is considered by artists, clients, museums and authoritative art critics to be a national treasure. His works vary from the monumental to small paintings of especial poignancy. He is equally at home with and masterfully adept painting florals, figures, still lifes , interiors and portraits. In 1995, Greene was the recipient of the John Singer Sargent Award and just this year was awarded the Gold Medal of the American Portrait Society. His subjects include Eleanor Roosevelt, Ayn Rand, William Randolph Hearst as well as numerous Mayors, Governors, art figures, business leaders, and the presidents of many leading universities.
